I got my first win...

...since April of 1999 today at a Criterium in Santa Clara. It's been so long I'd forgotten how good it feels to cross the finish line in the top place position. I finally did what my good friend Kenan has been telling me for weeks: "Leave early, and make the other riders come around YOU in the sprint." Kenan has been helping me out with both my training and race tactics, and I can't even begin to explain how much a 5 minute conversation with him before a race helps me. Thanks brooooo!

On Saturday I did a 60 mile road race at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA, and took second place. So, overall, the weekend was pretty successful.

I also wanted to give a shout out to my buddy Chris for his help today before the race...no more need for patches!

ROaD RoAD ROAd...

...is all I've been up to for the past 2 months. Racing started off pretty bad with a couple mid pack finishes, but lately I've been able to step it up quite a bit and have had a few top 3 finishes. Here's a pic from a race a few days ago in Lafayette taken by Forrest Arakawa:

..other than that not much else has been going on. I've been trying to enjoy what might be my last summer vacation, and have as much fun as possible before school starts up again in late August

It's been a while...and I've been doing what I always do whenever I have free time...riding my bike...I'm done with another year of school, summer is already half over, and I've been riding the hell out of my road bike. A month or so ago I decided I wanted to try racing some Criteriums this summer, so I trained for a week and went out and raced the next weekend. The first race back (I was a road racer in high school) I crashed, luckily not bad, but was able to get back up and at least finish the race. The next weekend I did another crit and finished a little better than mid pack. Those two poor finishes have been very motivational, and since then I've been working at getting fit. I have 5 races in the next 3 weeks, and I don't think I've ever wanted to compete as bad as I do now....

Here’s a picture of me from the Firestone race in Los Olivos 2 weeks ago. The course was super fast, and fun as hell. They had some nice burms, 2 technical turns, a good size step down, and some fun doubles at the finish. All in all it was a great weekend. I ended up 8th in the Pro class out of 21 riders.

Sweetriding goes International! I’m off to Mexico for a race in Tepotzotlon for their third National. The race is about an hour from Mexico City so it’s not a bad deal. I will be training a couple guys down there and in exchange they are going to be paying for my flight, food, and place to stay--pretty SICK deal. The race even has a Pro Purse and only cost $250 pesos.....that’s about $20 US, so I’ll be coming out ahead for the whole trip. I’ll take some pics and video so you can see them on Sweetriding.com.

Jiro left early this morning after a week straight of hyping it, cat naps, and more hyping it. He spent the week following Sea Otter in Nor Cal taking care of business for his business, and hanging at 931. It was nice to have a NBR around again--hyping it just like the old days. I'm definately going to have to head out to the 702 to check his situation out there and R.A.G.E. The next few weeks of school are going to be complete hell, but after that I will have 3 months of freedom. I'll probably head back to SB for a few weeks to make some money to pay for racing, then back to Berkeley to ride and train.

I was just down in SB for a few weeks ago visiting the family and getting some work done on the "whip." The weather wasn't too bad down there and I was luckily able to get some good training in. I also went to visit Aki at the NBR Headquarters and checked out the lastest additions to his sweet backyard track. I can't wait to get a KLX 110 after the MTB season is over! Check out the pics:

I also went and visited True Precision Components, makers of the hubs formerly know and STEALTH (now called S2), and saw the new rear hub design that will be ready for testing in the next week or so. The new hub design will be more durable, lighter, and will be able to be used in more aplications of cycling. S2 is also going to be coming out with a 150mm version of their hub for downhill bikes in the near future as well. I'll get some pics up of the new rear hub as soon as I get my hands on one...

I also recently got my hands on Fox's new 36 fork. The fork feels soooooo good. I also threw on some of the parts that I got from NBR while I was down south. The latest changes took 4 pounds off the weight of the bike, and I still have a few more things to change. I'll take some pics of the finished product right before I head off to the Sea Otter Classic, but here are some pics of the bike now:

I think that about does it for my hype right now. I'm heading back to Sand Hill again this weekend for another race. I went out there last weekend to practice, and felt really good on the bike. I recently made some changes to the suspension, and it corners even better now....

Gotta give a SHOUT OUT to NBR for being one step ahead of the game as usual! They always got things dialed, and keep my dialed as well. Thanks!

Keep the hype high...out

Sand HIll Ranch 2005

Curtis Beavers took 3rd overall even after breaking his chain TWICE in the race.

Forrest in his favorite pre-race position.

Mikey: "It's all sooooo temporary..."

Stoked at Sand Hill Ranch.

The Podium. Beav fell in the finals (which is the only reason he is not on the top of the podium.) and took second overall, while Curtis came back from a 1.5 disadvantage in his second run and too 3rd. WTB is KILLING IT already!

Chillin in the back of the Sano Sick Sierra, SICK SICK SICK
Sweeeeeeeeet!

We didn't do as well as we would have liked, but overall this has been one of the funnest weekends ever. We all had a great time at the race, and Forrest and Ryan came out to Berkeley and chilled with us till 4 in the morning that night. 25 hours of non-stop HYPE today. Sometimes you just gotta trust your boy Sweet, sweet.

Curtis Keene and Chris Carscadden placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in The Keyesville classic Downhill Race.

My buddy just sent me these pictures of me on my CRF 50 from last year. Man I miss having that thing around. I'm trying to work out the final details with the sponsorship deal, but I should hear back from Mastercard later this week. If everything works out, I'll be getting another one of these for sure:

NBR: MIA?
Apparently not...

Just when I thought Aki and Jiro Nakamura of Nakamura Brothers Racing (NBR) were MIA, they release their latest secrets:

"Just got back from testing out at the secret NBR test track. Trying out different things to get the aero advantage this year. Troy sent us a new prototype helmet that should shave off a few seconds on a DH run. Here's some pics:"

And Jiro has been so dedicated to training and racing this year that he has been training all sorts of conditions, including the SNOW! He says that he thinks riding in the snow will be similar to the slippery and wet conditions on the World Cup circuit this year. Look for him to be placing up near Forrest and other top pros on the circuit!!!!!!!

Had 2 midterms back to back today, hopefully it went well! I have class this whole weekend Saturday and Sunday, so I won't be riding much. But after this week ends I'm gonna get on my bike and ride cause I got the itch. I really want to ride the "Wood" soon because it has been raining like crazy down here and some locals and me went to go build it up last weekend. SWEEET get ready to ride the "Wood."

I went riding out to a local Slalom and 4X track at a place called Sand Hill Ranch all day yesterday with Forrest, Ian, Ryan, Chris, and Rich. Ian came out and taped the whole time......THANKS man! I'm going to try to find a way to get the video on my computer so I can upload it to the site. It was crazy how much faster Ryan was going than anyone else there. He is a SUPER fast rider, but beats himself down when he makes mistakes...I don't know, maybe he gets a little scared. Don't be scared man, don't be scared. He also had the fastest speed on the course--Forrest brought out his GPS and so we could see how fast we were riding. My mom also came up for the weekend, and I spent most of today hanging out with her and my sister. Yep, I'm a MOMMA'S BOY, and proud of it:
